The Calliope Shire on the Central Queensland coastline surrounds Gladstone City.  Encompassing an area of some 6600 square kilometres, the Shire comprises a diversity of natural environments from the majestic Kroombit Tops range in the west to the Heron group of islands on the Great Barrier Reef.

With beautiful beaches, green parklands, real history and friendly people, the Calliope Shire is a great place to visit for real relaxation.  The Tannum Sands Visitor Information Centre on Ocean Street is open seven days - be sure to drop in for local knowledge!

The Shire is made up of coastal, mountain and rural areas, including the Boyne Valley.  The main centre of urban population is the community of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands.  The coastal Bruce Highway runs through the Shire.
