Some 250, 000 barramundi fingerlings and released into the Lake each year, ensuring that it is well stocked. Lake Awoonga is also a wildlife sanctuary and is one of the most important bird refuges on the East Coast of Australia. The Lake is also home to a diverse range of native fauna, wildlife and bird life. The Lake is well equipped with picnic shelters, bbq facilities and toilets. Millennium Esplanade Visit the beautiful Millennium Esplanade at Tannum Sands and enjoy the tranquil surroundings of the patrolled beach, picnic and bbq areas and the playgrounds. Recently beautified, the Esplanade stretches from Main Beach to Wild Cattle Creek and is a great day out in the sun! Another stretch of beautiful beaches and picnic areas is Canoe Point.
